You are on the backup site for Chessvariants.com. Any posts, moves, or other changes you make here will not be permanent, because the pages and database from the main site will be backed up here every midnight EST. Additionally, things may not be working right, because this site is also a testbed for newer system software. So, if you are not here to test, develop, or merely read this site, you may want to change .org to .com in the navigation bar and go to the main site.

Recapturable Chess

Rules

  1. If a piece is captured, the player who captured it places it anywhere on the board, on a vacant square, and becomes his own piece. It is marked (you might use checker underneath to mark).
  2. It is not allowed to place such piece to give check.
  3. Pawns cannot be placed on first or last rank.
  4. Pawns on second rank can move one or two spaces.
  5. Promoted pieces remain promoted when captured.
  6. A marked pawn promotes into unmarked pieces.
  7. If marked pieces are captured they are removed from the game.
