How does one go about publishing one's game on Game Courier? Can I start from scratch, or is it necessary to have a preset and edit it? Do I just leave to the editors? It doesn't appear to be as cut-and-dry as putting things on the Pages is.
Some while back, I posted a comment on how perhaps there should be a CVP app. http://www.chessvariants.org/index/displaycomment.php?commentid=30079 I realize how difficult that would be, but it seems that an app implementation of Game Courier would be more useful than a Maharajah-for-Hire.
I think there needs to be a chess variant design contest. Maybe a 14-piece, 20-square contest for 2014? Perhaps something else clever.
It looks interesting. I have one mysellf called Warlord Chess. I didn't know the search had expanded so much. It seems there are new chess variants there every month. They even have hexagonal chess now (Glinski's, from the look of it).
The Queen could be the Upside Down cake. It moves as a Rook up and then as a circular King until it turns sideways, when it can move as a Rook, wnd then as a circular king in the same direction u til it turns down, when it again moves as a Rook. It can't leap, nor can it stop during the Circular King movement. Seems interesting. It's a killer on an open board, but is completely dependent on one square being open. Why the name and idea? It's an Up-Side-Down KK.
It is intriguing to note the occassional power difference between the maharajah and the sepoys when applying it to chess variants. For instance, Jupiter-applied M&S produces a terrible beast while Shogi produces a piece that some may think is not itself powerful enough for its board.
Dear Everyone, First of all, this is not fiction... I hope. There was a large hex variant on the pages called neptune, featuring pieces such as princesses, crooked bishops (not what they were called), and "space eaters" that swallowed squares. Does anyone else remember this? What happened to it? And, perhaps most spookily, why has every trace of it disappeared like squares in the Space Eater's path? Thank you for your thoughts, theories, answers, comments, etc. Daniel MacDuff
I have recently been so fortunate as to acquire a 3D printer, which uses plastic filament to create 3-dimensional objects. I have been creating a set of pieces for Unconventional Warfare Chess, whci can be found here:(http://www.chessvariants.org/large.dir/contest84/unconventionalwarfarechess.html). Because of this, I have been looking at that page a lot. I have begun to guess at a few stratagies and tactics to try, but if anyone has played this game before, maybe they could teach me a few of their tricks. Thank you.
Now Rocky Horror Lycanthropic Chess is missing. I'm not quite sure what to try to look up, as it has quite a long and complex title, but even a google search on the site for lycanthrope onyl returns Halloween Knight Court.
Another subvariant would be to add a row on each side and superimpose The Game of the Trees. Every piece can travel on grass, shrubbery, and trees equally (Perhaps a Shrew in the trees can't be squashed, or a Deer can eat grass and shrubbery...). Other than movement, trees would block everything. Just a suggestion. Update (like six hours later): Perhaps This Game is for the Birds could be worked in too... The Ultimate Outdoor Trifecta Chess would be very strange indeed...
Thanks for the assist. I tried itemid=lycanthrope, =rockyhorror, etc. It seems I did indeed forget a few words of the title!
As regards the International Prop. error, I think it helps thematically (if a year after troops were committed nukes were flying the human race would have been wiped out back in the 60's or 70's) as well as changing the feel of the early game. It gives you time to play chess before the game REALLY begins to go crazy. But just for the record, in the game I just played, the player who struck the other's Propaganda first won. With a nuke.
Hello T. Becker, I have not quite finished the Chess Wars series- I was not aware there was interest. My life has gotten a little busier over the years, and most of my latest projects would not really fall into the category of chess variants, but I can think of a few ideas that would be aplicable to the chess variant category. I will try to finish this series and maybe create some new games. It honestly means a lot that you noticed! Thanks, Daniel MacDuff
Yay! My first real graphics!
This is indeed a problem. Possibly the kingly crown could create non-royal kings and players could begin with one "real" king which is the object of mate.
I don't know. I feel like Microorganism would be too strong, and a virus assault (for instance) could easily overrun the Lifeform. Are you familiar with David Howe's variant Mega Chess? It features pieces that are also games. Perhaps Lifeform Chess with Microorganism board-pieces would be an interesting variant.
Paolo: Having not taken the time to playtest yet (most of my variants are posted as untested ideas), I had not considered the awkwardness of the setup. A fluid setup seems to be the best way to play, however,
Paolo: Yes, the "joint lock + elbow strike" is possible. As for your meta question, I suggest you do just that. If there is an error, it is likely that ohers will see it before you do.
You are correct, and I must admit that the 5-10 do not really have a difference at all. It really would not matter unless you were playing on a larger board. However, I will leave the rules as they are exactly for that purpose.
Since this comment is for a page that has not been published yet, you must be signed in to read it.
I accept this challenge.

Have the links to .zrf's been cut as a part of the move? All the download links I've looked at today have sent me back to the home page.
You have to be kidding me... autocorrect stole my post.
Anyway, let me hit the high points. I'm to make a .zrf for Ganymede Chess and have no experience. The Wall, the Mini-Rose, and the castling rules are all a little weird and if anyone can provide advice/examples for these kinds of things in .zrf's then I'd much appreciate it.
