One idea is to play with drops, except that pawns cannot be dropped, only spawned from kings. In this way the board will not get extremely flooded of pieces. Try it
Yes I knew that hiragana was the feminine form, although today most documents use hiragana for japanese words and katakana for words transliterated to japanese. I agree katakana would be better for this game though, also the symbols look kind of better for this game. The symbols in katakana almost look like their movement types, but not quite (it would make it easier for non-japanese people to remember how the pieces move). I was just saying hiragana could be used, but it probably is better to use katakana. But, the compounds would require more than one symbol.
I play with drops as well, and I think you should use Kanji for the king
and pawns, and katakana or hiragana symbols for Ko-Zu-Ne. Also have a set
of symbols like +,x,o as well, they would also be good. I also think black should go first, like in Shogi
The symbol for the Shogi isn't very good, it probably should be called a cannon, and the correct symbol should be used (the Xiang-qi cannon symbol. The one you used means 'Flying Chariot'). Of course if you don't have a set for this game, or Shogi either, I guess you might use whatever you have...
If the algorithms, information, and programming manual were public on site somewhere I could find, anyone could program their own program to emulate Zillions. I would use it, even if it cost some money to use. Maybe if they don't want all lose money, they could make a license to say 'You can't distribute programs that use this algorithms because is patented', but I disagree with the fact that you can patent computer programs anyway.
I don't like this program all that much, I would like it if it were cost less, less user-friendly, less graphical, and more programmable. One thing I would like is to be able to use a ActiveX object in Visual Basic to send and receive moves.
This is one of my favorite chess variant of normal pieces, because it makes people's brain explode
You forgot the less than and greater than signs for the rules section in 'center' tags. I can still see the rules by going to 'edit page', but I cannot edit it because is not wiki file. Can you fix this? You also need to put a checkmark on 'dice' in the index information page.
White playing <a href='/play/pbm/play.php?game=Xaigo2&settings=Xaigo2'>Xaigo</a> in solitaire mode, I got a error of 30 second time limit for PHP script. To make it faster you could store the current position on the hidden field on the form, and also make the program reset the time limit to 30sec after each move, but storing the position on the form would make it go much faster!
<a href='/play/pbm/play.php?game=Xaigo2&settings=Xaigo2'>Xaigo</a> works in solitaire mode, but when trying to record a game or problem I get the error 'You can only move your own pieces!' What am I doing wrong? All I did was I entered 'a1-a2' in the moves section
You can easily find most of them by typing 'play.chessvariants.com' into the Google search window. (I just saw many though when I was looking)
Some links link to the domain name 'play.chessvariants.com' which is an invalid domain name. They should point to 'play.chessvariants.org'. Since many are POST forms, they are hard to fix from here (but possible of course). Can these be fixed?
Thanks, I corrected my name. But I only used my first initial, and I put (zzo38) at the beginning so people don't think it is someone different. I put my name in Japanese in the Notes field, and my web-site in the web-site field. (I am not really Japanese, I just like to put it in Japanese, maybe you can read it!) If you want my whole first name, or anything else different, you can comment on it here and I will correct it more.
OK, use the 'ta' (or 'lou' if you prefer) and please make a icon out of it and use X/x to represent it in Game Courier (so it will show up in my 'Para Xiang-qi' preset, which, by the way, should probably be indexed).
I have looked it up, I think 'cheng' would probably be a better choice (see <a href='http://zhongwen.com/d/171/d176.htm'>http://zhongwen.com/d/171/d176.htm</a> and the corresponging Unicode page, by clicking on the '+' sign next to the question mark), also <a href='http://zhongwen.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?yinghan=castle&framed=yes'>http://zhongwen.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?yinghan=castle&framed=yes</a>. You could make only 'cheng', or one of each, or just make a completely different character if you think it would improve it.<br><br>But I don't really care what you make, but I should have at least one icon for the castle in Para-Xiang-qi which can be used to play this game. Whichever icon is used, I would like it to be added to the Game Courier so I could make a Game Courier preset to play Para-Xiang-qi.
Then whoever plays first together can see how this game actually works! (Of course I could use ASCII letters in the mean time, but if this is Xiang-qi, I would like to be able to use Chinese characters to play this game).
One way you should be able to post the Game Courier preset, is to copy the HTML code in the box on the edit page into the Notes section of your member-submitted page.
When trying to update the index information of member-submitted pages, I get this error message: <b>Error performing query: Table 'chessvar_Test.WhatsNew' doesn't exist</b>
I like to play this game with one small difference: That promoters are allowed to capture, but only if it could normally move there as if that square was blank. Also, I use the ALTERNATIVE RULE of not moving your promoter next to your pieces
Draw by agreement? That is not important, becuase if one player didn't like draw by agreement, he simply wouldn't agree!
It's good, but it needs a CASTLE icon for <a href='/xiangqivariants.dir/para-xiangqi.html'>Para-Xiang-qi</a>, which I invented. I prefer traditional Chinese images, but you should probably make both traditional and GB, and maybe also iconographic as well.
This comment is now obsolite. I already submitted 'Para-Xiang-qi'.
I can't post chess variant uses the page to automatically enter chess variants into the system.
