You are on the backup site for Chessvariants.com. Any posts, moves, or other changes you make here will not be permanent, because the pages and database from the main site will be backed up here every midnight EST. Additionally, things may not be working right, because this site is also a testbed for newer system software. So, if you are not here to test, develop, or merely read this site, you may want to change .org to .com in the navigation bar and go to the main site.

Shock Troops

This is a rules file for Zillions of Games, a Windows program that will let you play any puzzle or strategy board game you can feed it the rules to. With Zillions-of-Games installed, this rules file will let you play this game against your computer.

Shock Troops features two extra pieces and 2 new pawns are available in reserve.

Instead of making a move, you can drop either the War Knight which leaps 1 or 2 spaces orthogonally or the Elephant Knight which jumps 1 or 2 spaces diagonally into the back rank.

You can also drop a Ninja Pawn into an empty space on second rank and optionally push it forward. Ninja Pawns move/capture like regular pawns, but also move 1 space laterally and capture 1 space horizontally on enemy half of board.

To drop a ninja pawn, click on its final destination square making sure that all the spaces from the original start square on the 2nd rank to this square are vacant.

There are 8 variants included:
With the War Drone and Elephant, which both move exactly like the War Knight and Elephant Knight respectively, minus the knight movement.

Or with the Chancellor and Archbishop instead.

And each of these with or without Ninja Pawns.
