You are on the backup site for Chessvariants.com. Any posts, moves, or other changes you make here will not be permanent, because the pages and database from the main site will be backed up here every midnight EST. Additionally, things may not be working right, because this site is also a testbed for newer system software. So, if you are not here to test, develop, or merely read this site, you may want to change .org to .com in the navigation bar and go to the main site.

Matrix Chess

This is a rules file for Zillions of Games, a Windows program that will let you play any puzzle or strategy board game you can feed it the rules to. With Zillions-of-Games installed, this rules file will let you play this game against your computer.

The ZIP file contains two Zillions files, each of which uses the same set of images. The files are for very similar games played on boards of tessellating pentagons and diamonds. The only difference is in the size of the board and in the number of pieces: on the 121-cell board, each player has two Warlords and two Knights; on the 196-cell board, each player has four of each (reason: one Warlord and Knight move only on pentagons, and the other only on diamonds; the larger board allows for two of each).

There is a mix of traditional and custom-made pieces, which have several kinds of capturing ability.
