Copyright and the Chess Variant Pages

International copyright law applies to these pages. Copyrights on the materials published here are either owned by the respective authors or by us. It is assumed that when you send us an email about chess variants, then you give us the permission to publish the contents of the email, or a modified form of the contents of the email on the World Wide Web, and also in any possibly further collection of rules of chess variants or other games, based on the Chess Variant Pages, unless you state explicitly otherwise.

These pages are made with an effort not to infringe on copyrights of others. In case of violations of copyrights, please inform us about these!

My opinion about game rules is the following: the wording of game rules is what falls under the copyright, not the game itself, i.e., a different description of the same game doesn't fall under a copyright protection. The situation becomes different when a game is patented. However, in all cases when you think the chess variant pages violate your rights or those of someone you represent in one way or another, e.g. copyrights, patents, trademarks or otherwise, please let us know, and we will try to correct the situation.
