String Chess is a one-dimensional chess variant, invented by Aron Wall. He writes:
Regarding One-dimensional Chess, I have an independently worked out version (called string chess) that is larger and more complex:
Pieces start as follows:
DFFQMGGSBBSS.....ssbbsggmqttd Seelie Unseelie
. B .
|Double Step Leap|
|Grasshopper||As a normal Grasshopper|
|As a Rook|
|Dragonfly||Mouse + Frog|
|Moves like Spider, Checkmate Target|
- Seelie goes first.
- Ko rule in effect(no position repeating).
- Stalemate=loss for stalemated player.
- Taking own pieces OK, but one does not check own Queen.
Let me know if you find any bugs in it.
