I thought it was good practice, but I also think it is better to play with a REAL person:)

Very beatable, good tutorial

Very beatable but it is rather reactionary without the benefit of strategy. However it has provided for some decent end game practice.

I think for all these java applets you should be able to press '!' to edit anything on the board, to any possible values with no error checking. So you could make many kings, make invalid pieces, invalid colors, etc., and the program would to what it would normally do as if the memory was changed directly with no error checking. Just to be able to try out the program...

I really like the 'b' to move back one command. This is a great learning tool! I love to see all my stupid mistakes and fix them.

The 'b' is wonderful for learning from your mistakes!

I was looking for an easy online version so my 5-yr old could learn (he is just starting). This one is great for this purpose. Shows where the pieces can move, has an 'undo' key and plays at an easy level, a crucial feature for a young beginner. No wonder it rates at the top of the Google search.
