I have updated this set with over 40 new images and improved several of the existing images. Note that some of the compound images (e.g., chancellor) were previously not provided directly, requiring generation with the rendering engine. These are now provided directly for consistency and ease-of-use.
@H.G., Can you unzip this into the location used by the rendering engine, overwritting any existing files?

OK, I think I succeeded doing that.

Thanks! Now I'll use my script, which utilizes your rendering engine, to generate PNGs in 50x50 and 33x33. I'll let you know if I run into any issues.
Then, next step will be to update the "Alfaerie: All SVG" piece set to include all the new pieces...
There are 3 new images - the rose and a narrow-knight-dabbabah and wide-knight-dabbabah (for the knave and debtor from Knavish Shatranj.) H.G., can you please add the three images in this zip to your server?

OK, done.
The Knight-above-Rook looks blurred for its Knight part. Maybe that could be fixed?
@Greg: I believe you had a script for rendering the entire set of SVG pieces as PNG. Would it be an idea to run that at size, say, 250x250, to create a zoom-friendly piece set in an alfaeriePNG250 directory?
(Note that I added some pieces: mastodon, sabretooth, bat, scorpion, owl, plane, thief, general, 3 orientations of spearmen, sissa and diplomat.)
Nice additions. Except the Owl, not fitting with the rest.
Some ideas for future additions: catapult, bison, panthers or cheetah, bear, antelope, ostrich, wolf, dog, cat, mouse, phantom.
Not to forget to fix the "knight above rook"

Indeed I do. Although it needs to be updated for new pieces ... You've added some and I have added a few too that I will need to email you to put on your server. Let me go through and find out what they are. It's been a while. I know I did the Rose but I don't remember what the other couple were.
Not to forget to fix the "knight above rook"
There's nothing to fix as far as I know... You mean this guy?
Yes Greg I mean this guy. I see it blurred in its upper part.
You have something going on. It is exactly the same technology with the same vectors as every other knight piece. The knight's head is slightly smaller - it has to be to fit - but the edges are of identical sharpness. Does anyone else see anything wrong with the middle piece?
To me it looks OK. Some of the horizontal Rook lines are antialiased in a bit of an unfortunate way (so that a gray edge results), but if you squint so that you cannot resolve individual pixels this disappears (as it should).
That's crazy. I use a Mac Book. I am looking with Safari and I see this:
And with Firefox (not my default browser), I see this, which looks fine! :
The images you posted didn't come through, but I looked on Safari on an iPhone and I see it but I cannot explain it. As far as I know, that image is no different than any of the others. Very strange
What a pain. How you do to upload images inside the comments?
Judging by your source code, you are not entering images correctly. Just because WYSIWYG mode seems easier doesn't mean it is. It is not exactly like a Word Processor, and you cannot paste images to it. You need to enter an URL for an image on the web, and using the HTML or Markdown formats will let you more easily see whether you have done this.
Yes, it's what I say, it's a pain when you are a common people not a computer expert. I took WYSIWYG because it was a way to include pictures, with the default mode it is not possible. I really wonder how people embed images in their comments.
OK, I try again.
With Safari
With Firefox
I updated your HTML to use IMG tags, but your images are still not showing up. Check that your URLs are correct.

They show up for me
The images in Jean-Louis last comment do not show up for me on an Android tablet using the Samsung browser. But when I paste their URL directly in the address bar I can see them. It could have to do with the fact that they are on a http site, while CVP is https. Depending on browser security settings links to http on a https page might not be valid.
Anyway, what is seen on Safari is very strange indeed. The Knight part is totally blurred.
This is a test:
Ok, I think I fixed it. Please let me know if this looks OK.
@Greg: yes it looks ok, even with Safari, for the image you put into the comment section. The one in the main page is still the same, with the knight part blurred.
@Greg: yes it looks ok, even with Safari
Thank you for confirming. This was strange. I had to open the SVGs in a text editor and look for something that looked different in this image. I found a strange code in the layer object for the layer with the knight: "filter:url(#filter869)" I don't know how it got there or why it only affected Safari. I have replaced the original image, but it is still cached for the moment. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
@Fergus, can you please clear this image from the cloudflare cache:

Done.
I tested the ability to view SVGs on my iPad 2 and my Fire tablet. Using Game Courier with the Table rendering method, the SVG pieces would not show up on the board, though they would show up in the game description. This was so for Chrome, Safari, and Edge on my iPad2 and for Firefox and Chrome on my Fire tablet. After putting Firefox in desktop mode, I got the pieces to display on the board. I tried Edge and Chrome on my iPad and got Chrome to display the pieces on the board after putting it in desktop mode. While software on the iPad 2 may be out-of-date, Firefox is even more up-to-date on my Fire tablet than on my desktop. So, I think something else is going on, such as mobile devices limiting the display of script-generated SVGs.
@Greg: thanks, I confirm not seeing anything abnormal now
It's very nice seeing the Zebra compounds! I can use the Zebra/Rook for my Kuhani, and Zebra/Bishop for my Mtawala. I'll still need a Zebra/Queen for the Malkia, though (and a Camel/Queen for the Sultana would be a good sight).
Likewise, Zebrariders, Gnuriders, Bisonriders, and Buffaloriders are a "thing" (though I personally use them rarely).
Of course I have dozens of other pieces that I'd love to see symbols for, but asking for even a large share would be unreasonable. A couple that I would like to have, though, are the Bodyguard (from Hiashatar) and the Friend.
May I ask you to provide a license in the download, please?
@gbtami if you want to do, I can create Makruk Alphaerie with drawing Ferz and Khon but taking proPawn from here’s Ferz.
Because the Alfaerie set frequently disappointed me when I needed a canine images, I now created a wolf image for the SVG and PGN sets:
BTW, there is something very sick in the Comment submission system. Several times now the message that I am posting did not appear, and no amout of retries would make it so. I would have to sign out, and then sign in again, and post entirely from scratch to make it work.
For me, more piece images = good thing (though of course I'm quite a piece-nik). I'd make a bunch if I could, but I lack both the talent and the tools.
Great dog/wolf svg, thanks HG
To HG: this Wolf's SVG looks a bit confusing when seen in small size on a big board. What is strange is the rounded lower side. Because the mouth can be taken for the ears or the horns of something else and the ears can be taken as a mouth. I would suggest that you make a straight horizontal line for bordering the head in the bottom (like for other animal's icons, horse, camel, etc.). I hope I am clear...
Is there a SVG icon for "Elephant-Rook", I mean RA in Betza's notation?
Is there a SVG icon for "Elephant-Rook", I mean RA in Betza's notation?
I don't think so. But when using fen2.php to render the SVG you can make arbitrary combination icons by connecting the image names with two hyphens. Like belephant--rook:
@HG or anyone else havin authority for managing the Alfaerie list of pieces: I'm going to need a Badger!
I have design one from a model and tried as much as possible to respect the parameters of wking for the example.
Are they good enough? If yes, could they be added to the Alfaerie list?
And ... Happy New Year 2024 to all friends there!

I'm attempting to add your Badger to the Icon Clearinghouse, but having an issue with uploading. But I'll get it somehow. :)
@HG: what do you think about this? Thank you.
I repost this message that got unanswered, because I fear I was not clear given the volume of our numerous daily messages.

Here they are in png. I have also made the .svg that can be modified if necessary

It will be cool if I can get an answer.
Happy new year again
OK, I uploaded the white SVG image to the alfaerieSVG and svg/alfaerie dierctories, where fen2.php can find it, and put all derived PNG in the alfaeriePNG and alfaeriePNG35 directories.
There are no solid pieces in the Alfaerie set; black pieces are made by filling the outline pieces with blue. So I had no use for the second image.

I did exactly this when uploading the PNG versions into the Icon Clearinghouse: I simply filled the White Badger with the standard Alfeerie blue.
