Khmer Chess:Kar Ouk

This is a rules file for Zillions of Games, a Windows program that will let you play any puzzle or strategy board game you can feed it the rules to. With Zillions-of-Games installed, this rules file will let you play this game against your computer.

A variation of Khmer Chess popular in olden times. Kar Ouk differs from western chess mainly in that:

(1) Ang (Kings) do not face each other in the set-up, and for the first move it has an option to move a leap like the Knight onto an empty square, usually to the left or to right.

(2) Neang (Queen, or Guard) can only move one square diagonally. On its first move, it may move 2 squares forward and can jump over another piece. Capturing an opponent piece on its first move is allowed.

(3) Koul (Bishop, or Elephant) can only move one square forward or diagonally.

(4) Trey (Pawn, or Fish) start on the 3rd rank and do not have a double first move.

(5) Trey promotes to Neang [only] when reaching the 6th rank.\

(6)There is no castling.

(7)First check the opponent's Khun (King) , you win the game.
