You are on the backup site for Any posts, moves, or other changes you make here will not be permanent, because the pages and database from the main site will be backed up here every midnight EST. FullBoard Chess

This is a rules file for Zillions of Games, a Windows program that will let you play any puzzle or strategy board game you can feed it the rules to. With Zillions-of-Games installed, this rules file will let you play this game against your computer.

In this variant, both halves of a 8x8 board are filled up equally and independently by duplicated standard chess pieces - excluding the Kings, giving a total of 31 per, for each side. Rows 3 & 4 (5 & 6 for Black) are randomly setup, while the first two rows remain in the normal configuration. A remaining 4th (5th) row empty square per side counters the non-duplication of the King piece. Play follows normal chess rules; however, Repetition is set as a loss-condition.

In the included 150 subvariants, four of the extra pawns are replaced instead by another copy of each of the four stronger pieces; Knight, Bishop, Rook, and Queen.
After an initial capturing stage, an unorthodox piece alignment(s) will likely exist, i.e. multiple pawns in a column or an extra (or more) stronger chess piece.

A Zillions setup note: Click the Pass button or an empty square area to generate the opening random setup.

Three well-known chess variants have been adapted here as subvariants:
Extinction Chess by R. Wayne Schmittberger,
Non-Prise* Chess by Bruce Zimov,
Take-All Chess.
*altered 'Specific' rules have been modified for this subvariant. These are that Rooks cannot capture specifically Rooks, Bishops cannot capture Bishops, and likewise for Knights and Queens.
