Good and Evil Chess

GOOD AND EVIL CHESS
by L. Lynn Smith

This a simple addition to the standard rules of any variant.

Rules

The players have the option of either capturing an opposing piece or converting an undefended opposing piece. This undefended piece must be one that is attacked by the player, but the player merely swaps it with a similar friendly piece.

Remember that the target piece must be undefended.

Another restriction could also be that the player may only convert an opposing piece if a previously-captured friendly piece is available.

Notes

This form of play will have a considerable impact on the tactics and strategy of any variant. Rather than gaining a slight advantage during a series of exchanges, a player can gain a significant one. It is also possible to obtain early promotion with the conversion of a Pawn on its setup position.
