It's an interesting question how much being Royal weakens a piece or its side. Last night, I threw together a ZRF for a game I called Royal Amazon Chess with the following rule changes from Orthochess:

The Queen is replaced by a Royal Amazon, which moves like a Queen or a Knight, but is subject to check and mate just as the King is. The Royal Amazon may move through attacked squares.

Pawns still promote to Knight, Bishop, Rook or Queen.

At a quick look, it seems more drawish than Orthochess.
A further idea that I will test tonight, time allowing, is to add Orthochess vs Royal Amazon Chess variants. I suspect the side with the Queen will be better off than the side with the Royal Amazon.
