Other possibility of kings: (d) If you have king in hand you are not allowed to move pieces which are on the board. (e) If you have king in hand you must drop it on any turn if you are able to do so.
Another rule, if you want to use, is: Not escape check by capturing your own king.
I think the most natural rule is that you can't capture your own king. This is a rule used on BrainKing.com (see http://brainking.com/en/GameRules?tp=98). The game is really fun to play!
That's not a stupid remark. There appears to be an oversight in the rules concerning what to do with Kings. Some possibilities are (a) You may not capture your own King, (b) You may not drop other pieces when you have your King in hand, or (c) Your opponent will have to force you to drop your own King by capturing the rest of your pieces or otherwise creating a situation that is best remedied by dropping your King.
Sorry for my stupid remark but what would happen if I take my own king and I don't drop it back in the game later ?
I think that Recycle Chess is now being played *with* promotions (I have always played it and seen it played that way). At least I composed an endgame study based on promotions together with the author and he didn't object :-)
There is a fairly obvious further variant: COMBINING Recycle Chess with Hostage Chess. Enemy captures would go to prison until swapped, friendly captures would go straight to reserve. What does anyone think of that idea?
A fantastic game, which deserves to be more widely known. After many discussions about whether Hostage Chess should be considered as the best piece-dropping variant over Chessgi, this game overseeds both by some way. It has the following advantages : - Only one set of pieces is needed, unlike Chessgi. - The rules are kept very simple, unlike Hostage Chess. - The possibility for the king to capture one's pieces makes defense easier, counter-balancing the attacking possibilities given by piece drops, unlike both other games. - Endgames do exist, unlike both other games. Endgames with possible piece drops can be quite fascinating.
