Nightrider Armies. Nightriders replace rooks and nightrider compounds replace rook compounds in four variants.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]

What if the knight was replaced by a wazir in these variants? (like rooks are replaced by nightriders.) -- PS .. for example, the Nightrider version of the FIDE army would be : Nightrider, Wazir, Bishop, Unicorn, King, Bishop, Wazir, Nightrider The Schoolbook N would be : Nightrider, Unicorn, Wazir, Bishop, Dragon Horse, King, Bishop, Wazir, Nightrider+Wazir (Dragon Knight?), Nightrider. This can apply to all the variants. Similar armies and different armies. Wazirs are certainly weaker than knights; but this, ideally, would compensate for the high mobility of Nightriders.

Yes, Abdul-Rahman, interesting thought; maybe we'll have to try that out some time. Thanks.

I took down some of the nightrider vs. nightrider armies after I was embarrassed to discover that some had pawns that could be snatched on the first move andone of them had a mate in one. Quel catastrophe!

On 12x12 board pawns promotes on 3rd and 10th ranks, is that right?

Knightriders can replace rooks. Unicorn or marshal can replace queen. Two pairs of bishops or two pairs of knights can replace pair of bishops and pair of knights. Total 12 armies, including standart. Plus, Betza statet that berolina pawns have aproximately same chances as standart pawns, 24 armies with pieces with not so complicated movement rules.

Interesting concept. I'm wondering if, in at least some variants with nightriders replacing rooks in their setup, allowing a king to castle with a nightrider in some fashion might prove feasible. I assume such a rule is not being used with any of the variants offered by this preset.
