Oops, that was sloppy. This Diagram was still from the time when it was needed to embed additional JavaScript on the page to handle the special promotion rules, (the current version would support this kind of promotion as a standard feature through the morph parameter), and I had just copied that from another variant. But that code just tested whether it was reaching 1st or 8th rank without considering the color, as Pawns cannot usually reach their own back rank...

Should be fixed now.

While running a game between the Interactive Diagram and Zillions-of-Games, I found a bug in the Interactive Diagram. Here are the moves. The last move has an illegal promotion. The White Cavalier moves to White's first rank and promotes. But promotion is legal only on its last rank.

  1. Cab4 Cde5
  2. Ma4 Ced5
  3. Mg3 Cc5
  4. Maa3 Nh5

Interesting game. In my limited experience with it the knightriders seem rather dangerous pieces. I'm not sure I like the detailed promotion rules, but maybe it's a matter of taste.

Here's an experimental 10x8 CV that uses unusual type of 'pawns' also:

According to Game Courier, in problem #3, in addition to the stored mating move, there is another move that mates.

These are some of the Cavalier Chess problems I made back when I created the game. They used to be on my website, but that website is no more. I am using these to test and debug the new capability I've programmed into Game Courier to handle fairy chess problems. They all have solutions, which remain hidden unless you choose to see them. If you find the solution, you will be congratulated. If you can't find the solution, you can go view it.
