The answer to (1) is in Gilman's ''From Ungulates Outward.''
The answer to (2) is in Betza's ''Worth Than Worthless.''
The answer to (4) is here in Gridlock Chapter 5. It asks of the Jump Gate and the Great Diagonal Wall. See the section Setting Up Gridlock's Castle. ''The Castle is several things in one. First it's a wall. Second it's a resource of pieces. The other game promised you up to nine Queens. Did it ever deliver?'' When the four-way Castle is well strung across the board, it's called the Great Diagonal Wall. Anything along those lines, that the Jump Gate with its functions is part and parcel of the Castle of Gridlock.
