The Chess Variant Pages

Grand Chess Set Photographs

Grand Chess is a very popular large chess variant invented by Christian Freeling. Such sets are available for purchase at his MindSports web site. The photographs below are of such a set.

The pieces come in a well-crafted, sliding top-panel box. The pieces are carved from high quality wood, and the new pieces match well with the other staunton pieces. The 10x10 board is also of high quality hardwood, with inlaid coordinates along the bottom and left sides. This makes a wonderful display set, as well as a nice way to play Grand Chess with an 'across-the-table' opponent.
