HerdFebruary 2000, S. Sirotkin sent a chess variant, called Herd. He wrote:
This game is experience to collect together some jumping pieces. It is imperfectly. Later I want to find more interesting variant.
The game is conducted by the rules of orthodox chess with the following changes:
- Knights make (like in orthodox chess) a (1,2)-jump.
- Camels can make a (1,3)-jump.
- Bisons can make a (1,3)-jump or a (2,3)-jump.
- Promotion . When pawns reach last rank they promote to another piece, as follows: on a square a or g - to rook-knight, on a square b or f - to rook-camel, on a square c or e - to rook-bison, on a square d - to rook-knight, rook-camel, or rook-bison, to the choice of the player owning the piece.
