Ralph Betza describes another variant of Twinkle Chess, in which enemy pawns are alternately removed and returned. If there is no pawn to remove (i.e., the one you just placed was promoted) it's a win. No exposing yourself to check even if a twinkle move would save you.
These are simple illustrations rather than strong opponents.
