The Chess Variant Pages

Recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Edge do not support Java. Internet Explorer and Safari should still support it. Besides that, recent versions of Java will block this script unless you add to your Java exceptions list. You should find this in the Security tab of your Java control panel.

Full Chess / FischerRandom Chess

Like Fischer Random Chess, but neither the king nor the rook may pass over an occupied square in castling.

D. Wheeler on Fischer Random Chess and Full Chess. This applet follows Wheeler's castling rules which he says are standard.

There now seems to be agreement (7/27/04) that true Fischer Random Chess does not permit a king's leap, and that it is the same game as Full Chess.
