(Correspondence to the Editors by e-mail)

December 27, 2005

I am sorry to report the death of David Pritchard, author of the Encyclopedia of Chess Variants, at the age of 86, following a fall while in London on 12 December 2005. Several chess friends, including myself, attended his funeral on 22 December in Gloucester, UK.  David leaves his wife Elaine ( former British Women's champion ) one daughter and five grandchildren. At the time of his death David was still an active chess player and president of the British Chess Variants society.
