I am working in an hexagonal Maxima variant, Royal Palaces included
(Hexima?). Well, it is much more difficult than I imagined making a good
and playable game based on Maxima but in hexagonal board, my first tests
were horrible, the game can not be translated to an hex board without a
lot of important changes and new pieces. The new directions make the game
extremely complex and difficult to see, extremely agressive and without
beauty. Almost all ideas for Coordinators are not good and make the game
difficult to play, the same thing happens with Chameleons and Mages: its
power is unnecessarily augmented a lot, perhaps extremely, these pieces
are not good in hexagonal boards. I am trying to diminish the power of
many pieces and balance others, but very probably I am going to need new
pieces for the game. 1-Archers are in mind, perhaps another kind of
leapers or jumpers, and a new 'shielded' piece. I want a good game as
smooth as Maxima, with a good balance attack-defense and a good balance
tactics-positional strategy. My first attempt was an insult, I was
impressed about the low quality of the resulting game play. The hexagonal
board gives a new challenge: The design is not easy, if you want a good
game. I´ll try new promising ideas, i made a little test with a few new
pieces and I may be in the good way. I accept suggestions!
