Charles Gilman wrote on Tue, Jan 6, 2004 09:28 AM UTC:Excellent ★★★★★I was about to make three possible suggestions to solve the unprotected Pawns problem, all with 3 Pawns between the outer 2 Pawns together with: nothing between the Knights (same material as current variant); 3 Pawns between the Knights AS WELL (same material as FIDE Chess); Knight-Camel-Camel-Gnu-Knight (reduced-Pawns version of Wildebeest Chess). Then I realised that all Pawns ARE protected: the inner ones by the Queen and Bishops, and the outer ones by the inner ones (and should those move, by the Bishop behind them). Still, the other variants might be interesting as well.
